Common questions
Where are my original photos?
With Save Originals to Photos turned on and photo access allowed, Encounter automatically saves the original photo to the Encounter album in Apple Photos—even if you leave the editor without saving a note or setting a wallpaper. You can turn this off in app settings for future captures. Cutout notes stay in the app, and imported photos are not saved again. If an original is missing, check the save status in Encounter: it may be in the Photos library without an album, or you may need to tap Retry after a failed save.
Do I need to install a shortcut?
No. You can capture, write and organize notes within the app. You can also export an image from wallpaper preview, save it, and set it manually using iPhone system features. Only one-tap wallpaper setting needs the companion shortcut.
What if one-tap setting fails?
Check that the installed shortcut matches your app and that its target wallpaper is the one you want to update. Start in Encounter: open your wallpaper preview, then tap Set Wallpaper. The shortcut needs the image from this step, so running it directly in Shortcuts may not work. If you get stuck, you can still export the image and set it as wallpaper manually. Send us the error message, and do not delete your original wallpaper just to diagnose the problem.
What if recognized text is wrong?
Handwriting can be tricky to read. If Encounter gets a word wrong, you can edit the recognized text in the app. Check the original note whenever the details matter.
Does deleting a note delete the photo in Photos?
No. In-app notes, Photos, applied wallpapers and exported files are separate copies. Manage each separately. Archiving is not deletion.
How do I restore purchases or cancel a subscription?
Use the Apple Account used for the purchase and choose Restore Purchases on the subscription page. Manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple Account’s subscriptions section in iPhone Settings. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
Are notes uploaded to the developer?
The current version processes note images and recognized text on-device and does not proactively upload them to developer servers or third-party cloud recognition services. Emails, exports, sharing, system photo sync, backups and dictation follow their own rules. Read our Privacy Policy.
